Well, I was really just pointing to the fact that scholars tended to manipulate the numbers to produce nine for Schubert, Dvorak and Bruckner while Mahler of course manipulate them himself, calling Das Lied von der Erde a symphony but not numbering it and then Schooenberg making some rather superstitious remarks about going beyond nine.
