Dominy, you ought to be inured to the corporate plural -- it's very British! I use it in the USA after many years in Britain -- "Ford are selling more cars..." But your last example is simply wrong. If there is only one translation it cannot take a plural verb. (Talking about a car salesman whose name happened to be Ford, it would be "Ford is selling more cars...")
