I had better hastily disclaim any inside knowledge of the kind of voice Berg have wanted for the secret setting had he thought or intended it ever to be performed! And I am grateful for the clarification about Rilke. My Rilke, which I had thought tolerably comprehensive, only had a handful of the E B Browning versions, though different ones from those Wellesz chose, and I could not find an adequate account searching on line.
