My copy of the new Bruch recording arrived in the post this morning, and I am much looking forward to listening to it - and especially the early C minor quartet.
I believe I have purchased every one of the recordings made by the Diogenes Quartet. They are fast becoming a distinguished ensemble, and I have been most grateful to them for not only core works, such as the Schubert quartets, but especially for recording lesser known works by people like Fesca (I hope that very soon we will have the second volume of the Fesca quartets!)
As for Gernsheim who you mention I do appreciate that members of the quartet have recorded the four violin sonatas and other works for violin and piano, together with the 1st and 3rd Piano Quartets (truly wonderful works they are!)
But as far as I know the Diogenes Quartet haven't tackled any of the five Gernsheim String Quartets? I've long been frustrated because I believe only the 2nd quartet (in A minor, Op. 31) has been recorded - by the Mandelring Quartet some years ago - and the neglect of the other quartets is something I much regret.
A complete set of all the Gernsheim string quartets performed by the Diogenes Quartet would be an absolutely wonderful treat for chamber music enthusiasts. Do please convey that wish to the quartet!
