Re: Cooke and Fricker from Lyrita!

I am delighted to read the enthusiastic reviews by Brian Wilson and John Quinn respectively of the Cooke and Fricker releases from Lyrita. The two Cooke symphonies are thoroughly invigorating works written by a composer paying little or no attention to fashion, very much his own man. I dimly recall the old 'Penguin Guide to Choral Music' saying that Fricker's "Vision of Judgement" was one of the last works in the old tradition of British choral music and whilst that is demonstrably far from the mark the work does stand high in the pantheon of that tradition.
Lovers of British music can now look forward to the future release of Lyrita discs containing William Wordsworth's 1st and 5th symphonies, Anthony Milner's big Oratorio "The Water and the Fire" and Iain Hamilton's "The Bermudas" and Piano Concerto No.1.
