However I'm cautious about acquiring this cycle. Would Stuart, or someone else, be kind enough to tell me whether this cycle is identical to the recording of the complete cycle by the Quatuor Danel that appeared under the Fuga Libera label (back in 2011 or thereabouts)? I'm guessing that this is the same set of recordings re-released on a different label - the arrangement of the quartets across the 5 discs is the same in both sets.
I would happily purchase this new set if it is different, especially given the accompanying notes by David Fanning. But I used to own the Fuga Libera recording, and then simply gave it away on account of the recording quality. It was so close and so utterly 'in the face' that I found it wretchedly uncomfortable to listen to any of the quartets. And it made me most grumpy since the Quatuor Danel have recorded the complete Weinberg quartets so wonderfully.
In summary, a new or a different recording? Some enlightenment would be appreciated.
