I've just pulled off the shelves the Olympia disc (OCD 655) referred to in the review. It is a very enjoyable disc in which Paul Barritt and James Lisney are joined by Charles Medlam in a recording of the C sharp minor Piano Trio, Op. 100.
Ah, but what a mix up! I've always assumed the the Violin Sonata recorded on the disc is the B minor Op. 110 - for that's what it says on the rear of the disc. So I was a little taken aback to read Bob Stevenson's comment that what is recorded here is actually the E minor Op. 144 sonata.
Having checked at IMSLP Bob is absolutely right. The Op. 110 sonata has 2 movements, whereas Op. 114 has 3 - as is recorded here. Curiously the back cover of the disc lists the markings of the 3 movements that belong to Op. 114.
Quite stupid of me not to have spotted this before! So in the end what the issue boils down to is a simple misprint on the CD cover - rather than Op. 110 it should read Op. 114.
And, as Bob Stevenson remarks, given that the disc is titled 'Chamber Music - Volume 1', what a great pity a Volume 2 never appeared for the present disc provides good recordings of splendid performances.
