Very interesting and helpful reviews Colin. I'm still waiting for my copy to turn up. I love Symphony 4, with its echoes of Sibelius's 'The Tempest' and really look forward to hearing Bryden Thomson's recording. You are absolutely right about him being a shamefully underrated conductor. His recording of Symphony 1 by Walton on Chandos is my favourite of the ten billion versions that I have in my collection. It is perfectly paced with a gripping atmosphere of nervous intensity at the start and perfectly spaced chords at the end of the finale. His Bax and Vaughan Williams recordings contain some marvellous performances. Best wishes, Jeffrey
