Why can't you just let composers write what they want, and then listen if you like it and don't listen if you don't? I can't see what difference it makes what century a piece of music was written in - let the composer write whatever (s)he likes and then find or not find audiences. Life's too short to get angry about such things.
Besides, I personally found Gál's piano concerto easy to place in the early 20th century.
