I'm not positive that Taneyev's (wonderful) piano quintet contains, at its late date, the first passacaglia movement in a work by a Russian composer. Does the Comè Passacaglia opening movement of Pavel Juon's 2nd symphony (published in 1903 by Lienau in their Schlesinger imprint) count?
