On the matter of the three Welsh composers Colin mentions, I am told that the Welsh Music Archive at Ty Cerdd are seeking BBC permission to make the many recordings of their works in their archives available either as CDs or downloads from their website at some stage in the future.
Posthumous neglect of composers has always been a feature of the musical scene, classical as well as popular, but reputations do revive at a later date. Fifty years ago there was very little music by even composers such as Holst to be found in the catalogues (other than the ubiquitous Planets) and although there are still gaps in the catalogue they are much smaller than they once were. For that all the record companies concerned deserve our thanks.
