Technically, there's nothing wrong with the piece. At the least, it's clear that the composer knows how to exercise the full range and technique of a piano. But taken as a whole, I could likely name fifty concertos from the same era that have more to say than this one does.
I rarely find a piece so disappointing, and to read the author's glowing review surprised me.
I'll make sure my next post is something positive about a different piece, to balance things out.
