Though he did, unfortunately, call himself Polish in a television interview once, a 'piquey' thing to do with the preamble and consequences of what the Nazis did to Jews. For the record, he most probably did not speak one word of Polish in his life. His mother tongue was German. Breslau became a Polish city after 1945. It had been part of Prussian and consequently Germany for hundreds of years. I hate Hollywood history...
