Tony Duggan's Mahler review
Posted by Martin Tousignant on November 20, 2016, 9:55 am
Thanks to Tony Duggan's Mahler symphony recording survey, I am currently listening to Bernstein's 1966 NY Phil Mahler 7 on a 1980 Sony LP reissue. The mastering engineers cut the records very aggressively, but they vividly conveyed these performers. It truly sounds like they are discovering the music as they perform it. Having heard several other Mahler 7s before this, I can agree that it reaches the music's considerable heart.
