I have just endured the above work relayed through the medium of radio on Classic FM. You state that Hely- Hutchinson is largely forgotten.
Might I suggest that there is a good reason for this blessed state of affairs. The work is totally without merit in any way shape or form.
It is flippant, fanciful, and tortures the timeless carol tunes that he has waylaid to satiate his own over inflated sense of musical importance.
The endless repetition of theme was tedious almost to the point of nausea.
In my 67 years I have mercifully managed never to have heard this work, long may it be till the next time although knowing Classic FM as I do they will probably be playing it ad nauseum throughout this holiday period.
