I also found his comparisons with the Lindsays most instructive. The availability of both sets of recordings means that my future desert island will have to accommodate both recordings!
However perhaps Michael misses out on an obvious opportunity. The present Nimbus disc is a live recording made at the Queen's Hall, Edinburgh in August 2003. What Michael might not know is that there is another disc of a Kopelman performance of the same two quartets by Schubert and Tchaikovsky recorded in the Wigmore Hall in January 2006 (the disc is in the Wigmore Hall Live series).
What is especially interesting is that the Wigmore Hall performance knocks a full five minutes off the already brisk Queen's Hall performance of the Schubert quartet. It would be instructive to read a similarly detailed comparison of these two Schubert performances.
