Bernstein's Jeremiah Symphony
Posted by Jeffrey Davis on March 23, 2017, 10:31 am
just a note of thanks to Leslie Wright for his excellent review of the new Naxos CD conducted by Marin Alsop. I totally agree that the 'Jeremiah' is not only Bernstein's greatest symphony (actually his greatest work in my view) but also that it is a very moving score, especially in its wartime context. Like Leslie I have also come to appreciate 'The Age of Anxiety' to a much greater degree in this recording and, for me too, it will now be the CD I turn to first when I want to hear this work. I think that the soprano soloist was excellent in the Jeremiah Symphony and where she slows down in the 'Lamentation' towards the end it was incredibly moving.
Thank you for taking part in the MusicWeb International Forum.
