Re: Chopin, Rubinstein and Culshaw
Posted by Des Hutchinson on April 14, 2017, 7:28 am, in reply to "Chopin, Rubinstein and Culshaw"
Christopher, thank you for your comments. On p.210 of 'Putting the Record Straight', John Culshaw mentions "a pair of Mozart piano concertos, to be played by Arthur Rubinstein and conducted by Josef Krips", and then deals with the June 1959 recording sessions on pp.214-216, but doesn't indicate which Mozart concertos, or what orchestra. I was originally going to leave it where Culshaw does ("they never appeared"), but decided to do an online trawl lest somebody jump out of the woodwork and declare "yes they did!". I found multiple references to Mozart recordings featuring Rubinstein and Krips from about that time, but none with sufficient detail to establish absolute certainty. Given therefore that my aside should have better reflected this, and is of no real consequence to the review proper, I have requested its retraction. Thanks again for your insights.
