Re: Copland's Third Symphony
Thanks Tony and Nicholas. Yes, of course I recall that old CBS LP which did indeed couple the Copland and Harris Third Symphonies. I recall a weird cover image involving a statue with the Stars and Stripes flag draped over it. As for the Everest version I think that it is probably the best one of all and I was glad to see it reissued on CD with its original LP cover image which suited the music well. It was probably that LP which turned me on to classical music as a teenager - my older brother had the LP. I look forward very much to hearing the new Slatkin recording on Naxos. I heard him conduct Copland's Third at the Proms many years ago - I remember it as a great performance. Best wishes. Jeffrey
