Re: First night of the Proms
This kind of relentless hyperbole devoid of any critical content is now entrenched in everything the BBC does these days, Geoff. I cannot watch commercial TV unless I record then skip over the ads but am still driven to distraction by the constant repetition of those BBC trailers, endlessly plugging its own series on a loop with a succession of disturbing images. I know you rail against the predominance of the Oxbridge Toff style of presentation but you would at least think those people had the intelligence to hear and thus restrain themselves from endlessly spouting that kind of drivel - but they are too concerned with embracing the prevailing Zeitgeist and thus furthering their careers. When everything is marvellous, nothing is marvellous. And as for John Adams' "Harmonium"...please...
