I have three versions of the Bax 2nd (Fredman on Lyrita, Thomson on Chandos and Lloyd-Jones on Naxos). If I wanted another (which I don't, but let that pass) I would buy the Handley/Chandos.
Baxians will want the Goossens but then they will probably already have it from Dutton. The "new" Lyrita will have been remastered in superior sound quality, no doubt. So Baxians will probably want this "new version" as well. And there may well be more Baxians than there are folk who will buy the forthcoming Fricker double-set. And, if so, then that makes Lyrita's decision good commercial sense.
I shouldn't (and don't) wish to deny others the pleasure of getting what appeals to them onto disc. My own preference for previously unrecorded repertoire is, of course, selfish. Patience is a virtue but as one gets older I find the imperative becomes greater.......!
