Re: Mozart's horn concerto No.1 K.412 - not by Mozart?

Regarding the debate surrounding the authenticity of K 297b, I imagine that most people take the view that it is a hybrid work which presents insurmountable difficulties in untangling what is genuinely by Mozart and what the product of additions, embellishments and transpositions by other hands, but I have to say that for me the fecundity of its melodic invention, the quality of its writing for winds and its continued popularity among performers and audiences alike negates the validity of attempts to exclude it from Mozart's canon beyond affording academic interest. I have long loved the work since I first heard it in Karajan's wonderful 1953 recording with members of the Philharmonia - including, of course, Dennis Brain, whose recording of the K 412 under discussion remains seminal.
