I agree wholeheartedly with almost everything Nick says. The only divergence of opinion would be in regard to the Symphony No.1 which I rate more highly than does he. It may be for sentimental reasons-it would have been the first Fricker I really got to know-but the First Symphony has an energy and an immediacy which very much appeals to me. It may be a youthful work and Fricker may have developed his style to produce works of more depth but the First retains a special place in my admiration for the composer.
Given, as Nick says, that a lot of Fricker's other music is available (on You Tube, for example) I hope that there will be more Fricker from Lyrita. The composer's concertos and several of his shorter orchestral works could feature on future releases.
