Re: Schaller Bruckner 3rd (Schalk 1890)

Just to let you know that I have just returned from hearing a fascinating performance by the excellent Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra in Bad Kissingen of Gerd Schaller's orchestration of Bruckner's String Quintet. He is recording it in Prague this week. It does not necessarily vindicate the idea of its being a symphony manqué as the thematic material still often sounds more appropriate to a chamber piece but it has grand moments and the playing, especially from the horns and brass, was superb. Gerd is currently occupied with preparing a new score from the original sources in Budapest of Goldmark's "Merlin" (which he recorded and I reviewed) but will be conducting a new, revised version of his completion of the fourth movement Bruckner's Ninth at the Ebracher Musiksommer on 22 July; otherwise, he is not sure what his next project will be.
Thank you for taking part in the MusicWeb International Forum.
