Re: Stanford Chamber Music
That news has served to lift my spirits in the current gloomy world. Thank you so much for letting us know. I've found it astonishing that we've had numerous recordings of the orchestral and choral works (and a rather splendid complete survey of the works for piano!) whilst many of the chamber works have been almost neglected. The trouble here is that if works aren't performed or recorded they fall by the wayside. For example, a couple of years ago I was urging the 1st violin of a rather well known quartet to at least have a look at the Stanford quartets. The reply was that if works weren't played much then they must either be badly written or plain bad. What head in the sand attitude! The four Stanford quartets I now know through recordings I hold to be terrific things - and I'm itching to get to know all of them. And I'm especially grateful for Chris Howell's article on the chamber music for piano and strings.
Thank you for taking part in the MusicWeb International Forum.
