Thanks, Lee; our tastes converge remarkably on most things, especially regarding "Otello". Re "Rigoleto", I am never the greatest Kraus fan - especially with that reedy tone and his odd "letter-box mouth" theory which is really unhelpful to aspiring singers trying to achieve maximum resonance - but that recording is indeed treasurable, once a decent remastering had been issued - the original BMG CD release I had was disastrous, a muffled flop, but it's now available again in good sound, as you say.
What business such as Harnoncourt and Gardiner had with Verdi is a mystery but the results speak for themselves.
