Whilst I am in awe of BIS's commitment to the music of this superb Finnish composer there is still some distance to go in getting his music onto cd. Indeed it is proving almost impossible for BIS to keep up with Aho's stream of new concertos.
Those still unrecorded are:
Double Cello Concerto (2003)
"Bells": Concerto for Saxophone Quartet and orchestra (2008)
Trombone Concerto (2010)
Trumpet Concerto (2011)
"Seidl": Concerto for Percussion and orchestra (2011)
Cello Concerto No.2 (2013)
Double Concerto for Cor Anglais and Harp (2014)
Tenor Saxophone Concerto (2015)
Violin Concerto No.2 (2015)
Accordion Concerto (2015-16)
“Mearra”-Chamber concerto for harp and thirteen strings (2016)
Double Concerto for Two Bassoons and orchestra (2016)
Triple Concerto for Violin, Cello, Piano and chamber orchestra (2018)
Concerto for Guitar and chamber orchestra (2018)
In addition Symphonies No.6, 16 and 17 are still to be recorded.
Aho-admirers cannot but be incredibly grateful to BIS for having so much of Aho's output on disc but we are still short of Dan's "promised land"!
Thank you for taking part in the MusicWeb International Forum.
