Re: 2018 Proms Theodor Currentzis - MusicAeterna and Khatia Buniatishvlii
I must admit I hate Currentzis' "Pathetique" with a passion. To my ear it is all about the conductor inserting himself (and his ego) between the music and the listener. Every phrase has to be given a meaning all of its own. I can imagine the rehearsals for these sessions being a major pain for the musos with every second being micro-managed and fussed over from the podium.
BUT and this is a big but, my son who has very wide tastes in music was utterly turned onto this piece by this performance. I played him other versions but he found them bland after the musical-MSG of Currentzis.......
