Thank you, Peter; I am quite prepared for the fact that whenever I do one of those surveys I am bound to miss out someone's favourite - and thus it proves! In fact you have touched upon what might be called two personal foibles: I heartily dislike what I hear as John Tomlinson's rocky, lumpy bass (sorry to Sir John and his admirers) and frequently find Haitink to be a dull conductor, so I eschewed that recording. Furthermore, apart from the ever-reliable Thomas Allen and the great Gwynne Howell, nobody in the cast especially attracts my attention - so there you have it. Your post will help alert those who want it to its existence, however.
