In general terms though these contradictions are what make listening to music so exhilarating. Personally I have also, over some 50 years of listening to recordings, moved from loving to dialling the same performances. May be the effects of old age but could also be the assimilation of new practices. For example I loved Klemprter's Beethoven but now find it too slow and heavy. Possibly the coming to terms of the "new" generation? Although I still return regularly to the Beethoven from Leibovitz (1961!!). Each to his own and long may it continue!!
