Re: Shostakovich 7: Leningrad
Brian and Dieter seem to have put their fingers on a particularly curious point. Back in the early 1960s, when I was young and "new" to music. the "Leningrad" was universally frowned on, even vilified. That remained the case for many years; it's only quite recently that the tide has turned - and now, it seems, it my not be "in" for long. Mind you, the "Leningrad" is not unique in dividing appreciative opinion - but it does seem to possess more than its fair share of that controversial "Je ne sais quoi," n'est-ce pas?
