Haitink farewell concert
Posted by Martin Tousignant on June 19, 2019, 7:39 am
65 years after his conducting debut with the (Dutch) Radio Philharmonic Orchestra in 1954, Bernard Haitink gave us a farewell concert with the same orchestra on 15 June 2019. Even he and soprano Camilla Tilling could not make me enjoy Richard Strauss' music (no one has), but his Bruckner 7th demonstrated complete mastery of the score and the orchestra. His approach has both mellowed and deepened with age since he first recorded the Bruckner 7th with the Concertgebouw in 1966. The original Philips LP's (3 sides with the Bruckner Te Deum on side 4) still sound quite good by today's standards.
