I can however correct one point I had made. I spoke about my "presumption" that the three works listed had been recorded by Chandos. In fact I had actual evidence for the statement.
David Matthews's website is detailed, informative and, one would presume, definitive. The annual News Sections include "News from the Mixing Desk".
The following entries appear in that section:
"25th May 2016:
On 29 June, the BBC Philharmonic under Jac van Steen will be recording Symphony No.8 and Toward Sunrise at Media City, Salford, for a Chandos CD. This will also include A Vision of the Sea which the orchestra have already recorded under Juanjo Mena.
9th December 2016:
The BBC Philharmonic's recording of A Vision of the Sea, Symphony No.8 and Toward Sunrise has been delayed but will take place some time in 2017, all three works conducted by Jac van Steen.
27th September 2017:
The BBC Philharmonic's recording of A Vision of the Sea, Symphony No.8 and Toward Sunrise will take place in November 2017, all three works conducted by Jac van Steen.
18th June 2018:
The BBC Philharmonic's recording of A Vision of the Sea, Symphony No.8 and Toward Sunrise took place in November, all three works conducted by Jac van Steen."
So.....it was the composer himself (not I) who identified Chandos as the company involved in the recording. Ralph Couzens makes no mention of this in his response on behalf of the company.
One is left in a state of considerable confusion.
I have honestly and accurately reported what David Matthews placed on his own website. If there are wires crossed-as seems self-evidently the case then only the composer can clarify the position. HE seems to think that the three works have been recorded.....but by whom we do not know.
If there is anybody out there who can actually explain what is going on then I am sure that I am not alone in being anxious to learn about it!
