Exploring Salzedo's Capriccio for Brass Quintet - John France.
Posted by Dave Payn on October 24, 2020, 12:54 pm
Firstly, many thanks to Mr. France for his engaging article on a sadly forgotten part of the brass quintet repertoire. Regarding the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble recording, maybe it was overshadowed by the Malcolm Arnold Symphony on side 1. I also owned the other recording by Albany Brass Ensemble, who later renamed themselves The English Brass Ensemble, and who went on to make a number of fine recordings for the now defunct ASV label. Regarding Mr.France's wish that a CD be issued of the PJBE recording entitled Modern Brass, it actually has been but it was issued in Japan. It is available (as are numerous other PJBE LPs) from eBay but for a price! (£30.93 at the time of writing).
