For instance, the current comments on Tannhäuser discuss Paris recordings (preferring Solti) and hybrid recordings (preferring Konwitschny), but not "pure Dresden" recordings (I think there may be only two of those: Haitink and Janowski). Every time I look at that section of the "Untouchables" survey, I find myself wondering, "What would Ralph Moore advise, if a collector also wanted the stylistic consistency of a 'pure Dresden' Tannhäuser (not to replace Paris, but to supplement it)?"
Could that little question perhaps be discussed briefly in a separate two-sentence paragraph at the end of the Tannhäuser survey?
But I wouldn't want to divert attention from other, probably more valuable, tasks like the new large-scale Poppea survey!
Incidentally, I'm interested to see that the final recommendations on Poppea currently mention a recording made in "179," i.e. during the reign of Marcus Aurelius. That surely must be almost the last word in authenticity... an opera on ancient Rome performed by an Authentic Ancient Roman cast!
