Just a couple of thoughts: the Barshai can be bought for under £20 if you shop around - fabulous value although the sound is a little 2 dimensional.
I am addicted to the Sladkovsky - terrific, refreshing, exciting performances, great recording but expensive ! There is also a very fine Rachmaninov / Sladkovsky cycle - only a download though.
I was surprised to see no mention of Michael Sanderling's cycle with the Dresden Philharmonic (Sony) in Dan Morgan's review of the Wigglesworth cycle on BIS.
Sanderling's cycle is my current favorite. The sound is stunning and the interpretations are unfailingly excellent. Difficult to find right now, butI'm hopeful Sony will reissue it so that more people can hear these outstanding performances.
