Traviata survey by Ralph Moore
Posted by Michel Marleau on October 9, 2021, 12:12 am
I enjoyed reading your Traviata survey and agree with you that the all-round perfect Traviata doesn't exist, all have their strengths and weaknesses. The studio recordings I find most satisfying are Moffo (1960), Scotto (1962), Sutherland (1962), Sills (1971). I have listened to Maria Callas, her studio recording and various live performances and frankly she doesn't do it for me as Violetta. She is very dramatic but rather short on charm and vocal beauty.
