Yes, I could have mentioned that recording, but although I usually have the most important recordings of the major operas on my shelves I do not have that one complete, only excerpts. I usually admire Sills but here, although she despatches the coloratura easily, I find her to sound just past her best - or at least, not especially well suited to the role of Elvira; her voice is rather shrill and shallow, lacking the necessary weight, and she is unvarying in her characterisation. I actively dislike Gedda's pinched sound; he is not a patch on Pavarotti - but Quilico and Plishka are very good. I would still plump for the Bonynge before Rudel.
