To Ralph's recommended Beethoven cycles, I'd add Klemperer's, Walter's - and Wand's. The latter is often overlooked, but - as the Penguin Guide said - if you want a complete cycle, you couldn't do better! IMO, Wand gets the magnificent NDR Orchestra to produce a far truer and more Germanic Beethoven sound than anything heard from Berlin (except when Furtwaengler is conducting, of course).
