The cover of the disc John is referring to certainly wouldn't induce me to buy it.
Would I buy a CD simply because of the cover? No. Do I avoid certain CDs because
of their cover - I have in the past, and will probably continue to do so.
Tasteless is bad enough, but some are so hideous I just moved past them when
looking through CDs in a shop. (shops... remember those?)
If a company cannot be bothered to apply adequate design criteria they do not
deserve to be supported.
Fortunately these are not something we see every day, but that only makes them
more noticeable.
Quite why a company endeavouring to sell their product would use such covers is
beyond comprehension. Oddly, no one company is exclusively guilty.
And why does it happen? Given that the final product would surely be checked
before release by someone near the top of the pay-scale. Apparently not.
The recent Naxos release of Elgar's Complete Organ Works shows that it can be
done, as does their British Light Music series. It isn't difficult.
And as for glued-in booklets...
