I doubt , too, that performances of Hummel's A minor Concerto played by Philip Levi, Liza Fuchsova playing Montague Phillip's 2nd Concerto, Franz Reisenstein playing Dvorak's Concerto and Julius Katchen playing Gershwin's Preludes when he was one of the "Turns" on a TV variety show would have survived if an old man, who is somewhat addicted to hoarding such things, hadn't saved his reel-to-reel recordings from the 1960s ! By the way, I'm still waiting for the packet of HobNobs to arrive.
Sadly I can't recall that particular moment in the series, but I can easily imagine it.
Galton & Simpson were superb at revealing those very human characteristics and foibles,
mastered when they were with Hancock.
I was fortunate enough some time ago to acquire the full set of "The Good Life" (DVDs)
reduced to a ridiculously pleasant price - wonderful to re-visit that tech-free world!
As you so rightly say, those were the days when writers and performers respected the
intelligence of their audiences.
Enjoy your week-end & your music, Jeffrey.
