Tony Duggan's original review is glowing to say the least;

I must admit the conversation between Horenstein and Alan Blyth that is placed on the discs before the symphony is rather wonderful too.....
In terms of performance, none surpass the magnificent rendition of Jascha Horenstein, the LSO, et al., captured in excellent early stereo by the BBC and remastered by Andrew Rose of Pristine.
A miracle of sorts. One live performance in the Hall, with *no prior rehearsal* in the Hall [!]. One stereo experiment from the BBC, using one stereo microphone, and literally one take, start to finish. The results IMO stand comparison with any other recording.
I usually listen to the Bertini recording, terrific sound and a bit of hidden gem (not as hidden as Tennstedt's Das Lied).
