Thanks for your comments on our article. Although it can only be posted by one of us, this is a joint response with John Quinn.
To deal with your last point first - that part of the article dealing with recordings is entirely the opinion of one or both us. We are pleased to hear other opinions but, as can probably be gleaned from the article, neither of us shares your views about Haitink and Wand. The Goodall, like all the other recordings mentioned, was included merely because at least one of us has heard it but you'll note that we were less than wholly convinced by the recorded performance. Since our article was compiled we have heard the BBC Legends release of Goodall in the Seventh symphony. In our opinion this is a better representation of his abilities as a Bruckner conductor, though the performance does not challenge exisitng recommendations. We are both UK based and there may well therefore be some (unconscious) bias in terms of what is or has been readily available here. Another probable bias is that we feel positive towards most of the recordings mentioned since we have chosen to purchase many of them or at least provide shelf space to those for which we have received review copies.
Your recommendations are most interesting and we shall look out for them. The recently issued Barenboim set is currently under review and we are considering the possibility of updating the article as we continue to listen to recordings of these wonderful works.
