I should be flattered that I generated so much reaction, and I apologize to everyone for mistaking Gould for Copland. Certainly it was an error, but I regret most that it obscured the real point of my review. I wasn't being "polemical" but was reacting to a widespread polemical over-praise of Copland. I know he was a nice man and I really do like some of his music, particularly his chamber music, as the review said. He is in once sense his own enemy; Copland's less than brilliant recording of his own Third Symphony seems to have swept off the boards the really good version by Antal Dorati. Another point of my review was to urge the restoration that Dorati recording to the lists, and in this I hope all Copland lovers will join with me.
