Posted by Baron Bliss on September 24, 2006, 8:00 am I have fond memories of his conducting the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra at the BBC Studio 7, Oxford Road, Manchester in a programme of his own music to celebrate his 65th birthday. The works were the 'Philharmonic Concerto', 'Fantasy on a Theme of John Field' and the Symphony No. 7. Thank you Sir Malcolm.

Posted by John France on September 28, 2006, 7:20 am, in reply to "Sir Malcoln Arnold RIP" Curiously, the BBC Website sported a number of 'reader' comments - including one gentleman who asked quite simply 'Who?' Surely this is a sad reflection on the presentation of British Musical history in our nation. Yet perhaps the BBC will now lead the way with a genuine renaissance of listening and education to and about British Music that they seemed to have begun on the day after Sir Malcolm's death. Lastly, I am eternally thankful that I was able to personally thank Sir Malcolm for his wonderful Fifth Symphony...to me one of the finest works in the repertoire. |
