Posted by John Hill on February 6, 2007, 4:22 pm Peter Hill's complete piano works on Regis or Loriod on the Warner 18 disc Messiaen edition? Just in terms of the works both sets share and not considering anything else, is there a clear preference? Many thanks, John Hill

However, if price was a consideration, and I already had much of the other stuff on the Warner set, I would be perfectly content with Hill's set, which is - again by all reports - an excellent survey. Money no object? Get them both, indulge yourself in an orgy of comparative exploration, then burn yourself an "ideal" set extracted from the two! I might, if my arm were to be twisted(gently), be prepared to do a comparative review, from the point of view not of a connoisseur but of a simple lover of Messiaen's music. However, I've a feeling that you wouldn't want to wait that long!
