Jay White, alto sax Posted by Donald Clarke on June 18, 2007, 2:25 pm 12.216.182.250 Attention light music experts. Jay White made instrumental albums on Essex in the 1950s, playing alto sax and backed by orchestras such as Norrie Paramor. Essex (in the USA) also released Eddie Calvert and Ray Martin in the USA, but I don't know whether Jay White was British or not; according to one obscure item on the Internet he played a college dance in the USA in 1953. I suppose "Jay White" may have been a pseudonym. Anyway he made several albums and then vanished. Does anyone know anything about him?  Post a Response

I am now burning his "Street Scene" LP Released in High Fidelity on the SOMERSET LABEL (Album P-7200). There are two different cuts of 'Laura' on this LP and 12 other cuts besides. The liner notes give little note of who Jay is. LAURA was originally released as 78's.Somerset was an imprint of Miller International of Media (Sic), Pennsylvania. I even remember the album cover illustration (a 1952?? Ford in a minor traffic accident.) I have looked for this album in recent years, to no avail.  Post a Response

It was recorded as far as I know in "1962" on Quality Record Label. I found it at a church rummage sale where they had lots of older records. I haven't played it as yet as I have so many like this in my collection. It is in pretty good condition...  Post a Response

Al Gallodoro (sometimes spelled Galladoro) was a great alto sax musician who played well into his 90s and just passed away a few years ago. It was one of his records which introduced me to the sound of the alto sax. That one was of him playing lead and solo alto sax for the London Philharmonic. http://www.algallodoro.com/ http://www.prosoundweb.com/article/al_galladoro_the_passing_of_a_music_master/ The record I had with him and Jay White was an intermingling of cuts of each of them, not them playing together.
