The Long Day Closes - Factual Correction Posted by Robin Gordon-Powell on July 5, 2007, 8:31 pm 91.104.66.117 With reference to John France's enthusiastic review of "The Long Day Closes" posted today... Sorry to have to pull you up on a seemingly minor matter of fact - but W S Gilbert did NOT write the words to Cox and Box (1866) - that was Francis Cowley Burnand, who later became editor of Punch. The first collaboration between W S Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan was "Thespis" in 1871. I have not yet seen the disc, but I hope that the above mistake was not printed in the CD booklet - that would be too clumsy!  Post a Response

I am the Music Librarian of the Sir Arthur Sullivan Society, so your query has come through th the right person! - If you contact me privately I can let you have a copy of the music of THE LONG DAY CLOSES.
