The evening was part of the ongoing association between Caroline's not-for-profit association, the APMC and the Ontario based Glenn Gould Foundation. Through the APMC Caroline also supports young musicians - advising on the choice of teachers and academies, on auditions and recommending concert agents. Fellow French pianist, Jean-Yves Thibaudet is the "marrain" of the programme. The APMC also gives performance opportunities so young musicians play repertoire and competition programmes in front of sympathetic audiences in pleasant locations alongside the world class maestros in the festival programme. The APMC's New Year Music Festival in Gstaad is the next event - with English violinist Jack Liebeck playing on New Year's Eve. "We have so much in common with the Foundation's work and totally understand the challenges inherent in Maestro Abreu's work in Venezuela" Caroline said. "We are delighted that such a prestigious prize should go to an excellent community based project." Among the audience in London were the Ingrams family - creators of Garsington Opera. It was the late Leonard Ingrams who was inspired in his musical programmes by Caroline Haffner - who played a special concert at Garsington in 1988 and recognized the fine acoustic on the outside stone terrace which was to become the stage for all the operas that followed. Also present was Michel Yagchi, one of the original sponsors of Caroline's "Interalp Music Festivals" and "Gala des Coeurs" events - whose "marraine" is Sophia Loren, currently filming in Italy but who sent her best wishes for the evening - as did TRH The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall. Alison Karlin, Director of the new BachTrack concert and music site, Joanna Laird of the Foundling Museum, Crispin Holland of CrispTV are also involved in the APMC's future work. For the NYMF Youth Committee Ken and Jemima Benning brought their youngest son, Caspian, to his first concert. "Gathering fellow musicians and friends to events such as these is so important - as well as enjoyable" Caroline said. "We would like to thank Clare and her team for allowing us to celebrate the Glenn Gould Prize and to toast the memory of his music with Ontario Wine! All of us have memories of Gould's extraordinary influence on the playing of Bach's music but his visionary perception of things to come in terms of all art forms, cinema and culture are confirmed by what is happening today - decades after his death.
