A tangential message, but tangentially relevant. I have never heard the Downes Bax 3 and remain hopeful of picking up a second hand LP at a record bazaar. I have been nurturing the same hope in respect of the Myer Fredman Bax 3. For a brief moment a couple of weeks ago hope became excitement. I managed to track down a copy of Fredman's Bax 3 (which has never been reissued on CD) in the collection of the State Library of Victoria. Unfortunately, I live in Sydney and the library's policies do not permit interstate loans of audio-visual material. So there it remains, a recording I'm very keen to hear, in a known location but unobtainable. The librarian (who was very helpful and attentive despite being constrained by his library's policies) also gave me the sad news that the recording company that made the record was not ABC Classics, but a small Australian label that has since disappeard and been swallowed by Warner Australia. While I thought the recording was an ABC Classics recording there remained some hope that Cyrus Meher-Homji would reissue it in his Eloquence range. Now that hope too is gone. Back to the record bazaars!
